  • Norwich Transfer Station & Recycling Center

    The Norwich Recycling Center & Transfer Station offers single-stream recycling and trash drop-off for residents. For use of the transfer station, permits are required and can be purchased at the facility (the Clerk’s office no longer sells stickers or punch cards). More information can be found at the Norwich Town website.

    COVER Store Donation Program

    COVER Home Repair & Store (based out of White River Junction) owns and operates a box truck to pickup large donations at sites within 30 minutes of their store. The truck is scheduled to be at the Norwich Transfer Station at various times during the year to accept donated goods. If you have good, used appliances, furniture, rugs, household goods, or building materials you no longer need and wish to help those less fortunate in the Upper Valley, bring these items for collections.     Nordic Waste Curbside Pick-Up

    Based out of Lebanon, NH -- Nordic Waste offers residential curbside pick-up service (trash and recycling) for Hartland residents. On their website (linked below), click the "Sign Up for Service" button and enter your town name for simple viewing of applicable town options and pricing.

    Beauchene Waste Curbside Pick-Up

    Casella Curbside Pick-up

    Hartford Recycling & Waste Management Center

    All residents of the 12 member towns within our waste management district can use the Hartford facility with a valid permit or day pass (GUVSWMD and the Hartford transfer station are two separate waste management entities working in partnership). Certain materials that are not accepted at your local drop-off site may be accepted at the Hartford facility. To purchase a windshield permit sticker and/or punch card for the Hartford Recycling and Waste Management Center, visit your individual town clerk's office. For up-to-date information on services and fees, please contact the Hartford facility directly or visit their website.

  • Your Local Guide for Disposing Specific Materials

    Zero-Sort recycling is accepted at the Norwich Recycling Center & Transfer Station. Paper, steel/tin/aluminum, paperboard, and plastics #1, #2, and #5 can all be bagged together. Glass and corrugated cardboard are collected separately. For more details, take a look at the updated recycling guide and FAQ's page for the Norwich Transfer Station.

    Accepted at Norwich facility.

    ✓ CARDBOARD
    Clean/dry cardboard separated from comingled recycling is accepted here. No pizza boxes.

    ✓ ELECTRONICS
    The Vermont State E-Cycles Program allows for free drop-off of electronic items at the Norwich facility.

    ✓ BATTERIES
    Accepted at the Norwich Facility.

    ✓ BOOKS
    Can be left at the Book Shed at the Norwich Facility. View their book drop-off guidelines here. 

    ✓ PAINT

    Tires without rims are accepted at the Norwich facility.

    Accepted at Norwich facility and at the Hartford Transfer Station. Includes construction & demo waste materials, air conditioners, refrigerators, and dehumififiers.

    Accepted at the Norwich Facility.

    ✓ FLUORESCENT BULBS
    Accepted at the Norwich Facility.

    ✓ MERCURY THERMOMETERS
    Accepted at the Norwich Facility.

    X  CLOTHING + SHOES
    Not accepted at the Norwich facility. Find Apparel Impact Bins in town at St. Barnabus Church and Dan & Whit’s.

    Disposing Rx Medications:

    Flushing medications or tossing them in the trash is a danger to our waterways and wildlife! Vermont makes it easy to get rid of your unused medication. ​There are over 80 locations statewide including pharmacies, health care facilities, and police departments that host free and easy-to-use kiosks for medication disposal. More information about where/when you can drop of your medication and what type of medication is accepted can be found on the Vermont Department of Health's website.
